Submit a Nomination for a Special Interest Group Coordinating Committee

The Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are accepting nominations for their 2025–2027 Coordinating Committee (CC) elected vacancies. CC members, with the exception of the appointed Editor and Professional Development Manager, are elected by a plurality vote of the affiliates in the respective SIG.

Nominate yourself or another qualified affiliate to be considered for an upcoming vacancy by 11:59 p.m., ET on March 25, 2024.

Volunteer Responsibilities

The SIG CCs lead the SIGs and their activities such as

overseeing the development of Perspectives content,
coordinating SIG-developed continuing education opportunities, and
contributing to policy and advocacy matters.

The SIG CCs also ensure that the SIG operates within established programmatic guidelines [PDF].

CC Members are expected to actively contribute to the success of the SIG. They must follow the roles and responsibilities specified by the Board of Special Interest Group Coordinators (BSIGC) including the following:

Serve at least a 3-year term.
Serve in a leadership role.
Become familiar with ASHA and SIG volunteer leader resources.
Attend CC meetings.
Contribute as an active participant in committee meetings and conference calls.
Maintain regular communication with fellow CC members.
Advocate for the SIGs and the professions.
Spend at least 5 hours a month on CC work.

Note: Some SIGs have specific expectations or responsibilities that CC members must follow. Look for those details in your SIG's Online Community.

January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2027

Eligibility Guidelines

Both the nominator and the nominee must be:

Members in good standing (i.e., current ASHA members with no current ethics violations in the last 5 years)
- ASHA Members who joined SIGS as doctoral students are eligible to submit nominations.
Current affiliates of the SIG for which the nomination is being submitted.

ASHA Members can submit nominations for all SIGs with which they are affiliated. Individuals can only run for and serve on one SIG CC at a time.

ASHA International Affiliates, ASHA Assistants, and NSSLHA Students are not eligible to nominate, vote, or hold office.

Nomination Process

Nomination Submissions

Names of potential candidates must be submitted online by 11:59 p.m., ET, Monday, March 25, 2024, to be eligible for consideration.

Self-nominations are accepted and encouraged.
If you are eligible to nominate for multiple SIG CCs, a separate nomination form must be submitted for each SIG.

Tip: Use the ASHA Community to search for colleagues within your SIG.

Nominee Notifications

Individuals nominated by the date above will be contacted and given until Friday, April 5 to accept their nominations.

Note: Nomination emails will come from SIGs@asha.org. Make sure you add SIGs@asha.org as an approved sender so you don't miss the emails.

Nominee Bio Submission

Nominees will be asked to provide the following information by Friday, April 5:

Recent volunteer activities
Other service to the professions
Professional interests
A link to their ASHA Community profile

ASHA Community Profile Tips:

Make sure your profile is complete and current with information you would like to share (education, work history, photo, etc.).
Determine what information is visible to others by changing the privacy settings on your ASHA Community Profile.
- Select Members Only or Public so that affiliates of your SIG can view your profile.

Committee Review and Slate Selection

The respective SIG CC will review all valid nominations and determine the slate of candidates for the election.

Up to three candidates per vacancy will be selected.
Some SIGs have pre-defined requirements for the vacancies on their CCs. Check your SIG's Online Community for additional requirements.
Receiving a nomination does not guarantee a place on the slate.
Special consideration will be given to affiliates who have graduated from ASHA's Leadership Development Program (LDP) or the Minority Student Leadership Program (MSLP).

Reminders

The number of vacancies varies by SIG. Check your SIG's Online Community for the number of vacancies being filled in this election.
The following SIGs do not have vacancies on their CC and are not holding elections in 2024:
